Yee haw! If you were a kid of the 50’s you probably experienced some manifestation of the “golden age of westerns”. Still an iconic symbol today, in the 50’s and early 60’s the cowboy was a primo media & marketing force used to promote music, film, tv programing, and all manner of products. In 1959 an astounding 26 westerns occupied primetime slots. From clothing to chocolates the cowboy sold it all. My mother overcame my resistance to canned wax beans (yuk) by declaring them “prairie beans”! Guitars were a natural extension of the “singing cowboy” popularity and mass-marketers like Sears and Montgomery Ward offered numerous affordable mail-order guitars emblazoned with stenciled scenes of the cowboy life.

Those fabulous cowboy guitars are the inspiration for this excursion into guitar embellishment. First in a series, these birch pick guards are hand painted with the same airbrush and stencil technique used on those guitars for a great vintage look and feel. This is a handmade item, without lasers, CNC, or 3D printers, and some overspray or color variations are possible. Photos are of a representative example.

These are 1/8” 3 ply birch plywood with a 5 hole pattern that will fit most but not all Tele style guitars and some sanding may be required. Finished with Minwax Polycrylic clear coat. Add a little cowboy style to your twang machine!

Price includes free domestic shipping.

NOTE: A tracing that includes the hole positions is available, just message and I'll send you a full-size printable file.
